Biscioni in ecstasy

The Alfa Romeos of Ruggero Pulga

Alfa Romeo on stage at the theater

Dear Biscioni Friends, too hot sometimes plays tricks. Yes, because I still don’t believe what I experienced and so I still think I am hallucinating! So what I will describe shortly take it as the story of one who took a big hit of heat and still feels his head spinning.

When I saw that Montreal, in terms of unsold dealership branch Alfa, I started slapping my cheeks a little to reassure myself that I wasn’t dreaming…

The story begins with the departure from Turin, in the early morning, to Felonica, a remote village in the Po valley in the province of Mantua, guests of Ruggero Pulga, a true host and an incurable lover of all that is Alfa Romeo or that magical name attributable.

On the way we are the President and I aboard my Alfetta GTV 2000 L in white, chosen specifically for the color, “fresh”, and its qualities of reliable and loyal roadster. The group also includes the Biscione crew composed of Victor and Alex who reach their destination aboard a splendid and refined 916 coupe equipped with the 3,200 of Busso and above all equipped with an efficient air conditioning system. The arrival at the destination is around 15.30 on a Saturday in July, which will be remembered in the annals for being a very hot day, but so hot that when the entrance gates were opened the hallucinations took over. What should have appeared as a customary encounter between Alfisti enthusiasts immediately turned into a rave party, a happening of peace, love and Alfa Romeo, and that Alfa Romeo!

As soon as I crossed the threshold, the atmosphere I breathed made me immediately enter another space-time dimension. First of all, I parked my GTV under an airport-sized Alfa Romeo sign, the kind you see only on the roof of the production plants and so from there I started to see everything upside down; got out of the car, I tripped on a pair of GTVs, a 1.800 first blue series and a 2000 L like mine but in embarrassing conditions. I understood them, in a brief glimmer of lucidity, that the trip was taking over; yes because I saw practically two cars “zero kilometer”, never restored, practically new, with a few hundred kilometers, and I felt as if I had been in 1978 or so to admire the last novelty of the Portello at the home of a friend.

Then I also wondered if it was worth having gone all this way when I could go to the dealer under the house, but the confusion was already at high levels. In fact, a little later I saw myself in 1972, very basettatato and paw alongside an immaculate 2000 white and air-conditioned sedan, the latter perhaps the result of a squared hallucination but I swear I went on board, I tried it and it worked like god!

Meanwhile, the President I had already lost, and after greeting and presenting myself with Victor and Alex a dozen times, they too were pretty busted, I found Stefano, the President, clutched in a sort of orgasmic contemplation of an orange metallic Montreal with “only” 600 kilometers of road. You will say unreality, but the best is yet to come! Yes, because in reality Ruggero’s collection, or rather a part of it, is collected in a real theater that has been converted into a sort of mausoleum, to call it a garage would be an understatement, in which the actors are the cars locked there and the there are countless memorabilia and rarities all clearly related to Arese.

I must admit that when I saw that Montreal, in an unsold dealership dealership Alfa, I started slapping my cheeks a little to reassure myself that I wasn’t dreaming, then after having run into a 75,000 V6 with cellophane to the doors and a few thousands of miles alongside a mouse-gray cuttlefish bone, still alive, I don’t know if I get the idea, I had to sit down for a moment.

In reality I realized that before crossing the threshold of the theater I would have needed a bit of mineral salts for the already very strong turning of head; so it was that after a nice Polase I went into this sort of Balocchi country, and feeling halfway between Count Dracula at the entrance of Avis and the Gambadilegno bandit at the entrance to Scrooge’s chest, I went into this treasure chest full of everything a passionate and sick of Alfa Romeo could desire, dripping with sweat.

The blow was therefore near because, as soon as I crossed the royal throne, I was captured by the car that acted as queen in the midst of a parterre of princes and princesses: a stupendous Giulia TZ1 in conditions of daily use and that Ruggero did not hesitate to pull out to allow some of us, including myself, to experience the thrill of a ride on this kind of sacred monster giving us sensations that will remain engraved within us forever.

The cars that were the contours were the sum of the best that came out of Portello in the last sixty years. From a set of Giulia GTA 1300, 1600 and 1600 prepared, to a fast GT 1600 in a splendid ocher yellow, from a set of Zagato composed of a Junior 1600, a more modern SZ and an RZ, with a pair of 8C, both spiders that Coupe, giuliette spider and Sprint, Giulia Gtc, gold stamps and TI, Alfetta GTV 6, a 75 Turbo Evo prepared by Alfa Corse, friends, to write I turn my head, there were also a 1750 gt black and a 2000 white gtv but in the midst of that pandemonium they almost disappeared, all in perfect condition and ready for use!

In short, I believe you can understand the state of ecstasy!

The icing on the cake was then to notice, in a corner of the Holy Sanctorum, an Agip Supercortemaggiore petrol station, you got it right, fully functional with 118 octane gasoline specially prepared by Pulga, to better feed the race horses of his love Alfa.

The Ruggero is really one who does not joke and when we were at dinner in Verona, in a setting really up to the day, that combines …? He opened the door to a ducal palace, took us to a garage in a Swiss clinic condition, where there were four of his creatures of exceptional beauty; it is enough to tell you that behind a 1750 gray mouse sedan, museum, there was a 75 Twin Spark ASN so new that it was still to be registered!

P.S. we left from Verona which was more than 1.30 but the adrenaline rush of the day was so high that when I got home I started sleeping with my eyes open! Great Roger, thanks again! Alessandro Cerruti Biscione 69
